A New Type of Smoker
Aimed at private school students whose parents spend more money per year on tuition then most of us spend on a car organic cigarettes are slowing but surely claiming their piece of market share. America spirit, additive free and apparently the cigarette of choice for these Birkenstock toting catholic schools girls gone bad has the biggest slice of pie in the organic cigarette industry. Their website flaunts their sustainable environmental practices preaching “We know it’s not enough just to make a product in an environmentally sustainable way, but we also incorporate those same values into all of our everyday activities. That is why we’re committed to utilizing green energy electricity generated from renewable resources like the sun, wind and organic matter”.
The Green Band Wagon
Leveraging the green band wagon to their advantage this smelly old industry is luring in new smoker with their “eco-mail” campaign which encourages visitors to register to receive coupons via email. Taunting you in with their slogan “It’s only natural…” American Spirit prides itself on their self-proclaimed earth-friendly farming practices. Their caner laden sticks may be additive free but they still wreck with the stench of lung cancer and emphysema.
It Still Stinks
The green movement as we know as gained an incredible amount of momentum this year, unfortunately companies like America Spirit are using this positive movement for not so great purposes. The same industries that are the biggest polluters also seem to be the ones donating the most money to the green cause. On its surface being green simply means making environmentally sound choices, however its the opinion of this author that being green constitutes much more that. You can’t buy you way into green, nor for that matter can you smoke your way to being green. Don’t get caught up in the hype of the green-up, remember the real reasons for going green, and most of all ditch those nasty cigarettes.
