The 3 Simplest Ways To Green Your Home
April 8th, 2008
If you live in a big city the air you breathe while outside maybe as detrimental to your health as trying to land a handstand on a Sustainable Skateboard. What you didn’t know is that the air you breathe while inside your own home maybe even worse, 10 times as worse! That’s because microbial pollutants like mold, pet dander, and plant pollen can combine with chemicals like radon to create something even nastier then that pile of dog poop in your backyard. These toxic particles floating around by things like your toothbrush can lead to allergies, asthma, and even AIDS! OK so not AIDS, but still some pretty nasty stuff. That’s why we put together a simple list of 3 things you can do to green your home.
- Open a Window. Sure an airtight home is essential for energy efficiency, but airtight homes also lead to poor air quality that can be 10 times more polluted then the air outdoors. Opening a window in your home not only will cut down on your energy use during the summer months, but also wile also cleanse your home of dirt, and mildew buildup.
- Use eco-friendly home cleaning products. Unlike their toxic counterparts these products will not fill the air in your home with dangerous chemicals, and best of all you can make them yourself.
- Install low-flow faucets. These faucets have been know to reduce water usage by as much as 40%. If you don’t have the cash to install these faucets just make a conscious effort to use as little water as possible when doing things like brushing your teeth or washing your hands.
Organic cigarettes

A New Type of Smoker
Aimed at private school students whose parents spend more money per year on tuition then most of us spend on a car organic cigarettes are slowing but surely claiming their piece of market share. America spirit, additive free and apparently the cigarette of choice for these Birkenstock toting catholic schools girls gone bad has the biggest slice of pie in the organic cigarette industry. Their website flaunts their sustainable environmental practices preaching “We know it’s not enough just to make a product in an environmentally sustainable way, but we also incorporate those same values into all of our everyday activities. That is why we’re committed to utilizing green energy electricity generated from renewable resources like the sun, wind and organic matter”.
Greenability
March 29th, 2008
Are green business practices sustainable? Will the “green revolution” that is underway persist or is it just another fad. Major retailers have all already jumped on the band wagon, will our government be next? Consumers can purchase everything from sharpies made with eco-friendly dye free ink to shoes made from recycled rubber products. Unfortunately the “green revolution” comes at a premium price to consumers. At times I wonder if the green revolution has become just another form of class distinction? These are the thoughts that saturate my brain like a worm in tequila, perhaps its the tequila I lack that forces these questions to rise like a limp dick on Viagra?
Organic foods, organic clothing, and re-manufactured bio-degradable components all seem to me to reek with the stench of elitism. True, their have always been elitists, even a liberal elite. But our generation seems fundamentally different than those of past generations. Armed solely with credit cards and lacking any hard funds our generations seems to feel rather comfortable in debt and perfectly OK with dropping one hundred dollars on a used handbag made from recycled Capri Sun’s yet totally uncomfortable placing that same money in a savings account. What gives?
How To Build A Solar Heater With Beer
March 22nd, 2008
This is one DIY green project where we actually encourage you to drink a few beers before hand. Actually about 50. That’s approximately the number of cans you’ll need to build this solar heater powered exclusively from your used brews. But before you get started first things first, please wait till the wife isn’t home to start this project. Alright now that you got your bases covered gather up the following supplies:
What You’ll Need
- 50 aluminum cans. I know I didn’t have fifty cans lying around my house so I suggest you either stock pile up on cans for the next few weeks or head to your local liquor store and just buy them from the store clerk.
- A can of black spray paint. Feel free to test your graffiti skills on a basement wall whiles your at it. Note vegthreads will not be held responsible for your poor graffiti skills.
- Plastic tubing. Grab at least five feet from your local hardware store, more if you plan on pipping the heat your ugh beer heater generates further.
- Wood. Not that kind of wood! Two by fours and some plywood are what you want here.
- Something to make a hole in the cans with about the size of your thumb. A pocket knife works just fine here.
Alright guys now on to the fun part, drinking the beer! Ugh I mean building this beer heater generator thing.
How To Make Green Toothpaste
March 19th, 2008
Going green should not be a decision that coincides with buying more. Think of those 3 keywords they drilled into your head in elementary school reduce, reuse, recycle. The last time I checked reduce meant using less, not consuming more. With that said why not use some of the products you have lying around the house to make something useful like toothpaste? Besides isn’t it time you brush your teeth?
